This course will provide you with an introduction to the Kolner Instacol system and how it works. This will be achieved through a series of online exercises conducted with the teacher directly from his studio in England.
The Instacol system is the creation of Dutch scientist Peter Voshart. It is a contemporary method of creating a superbly high gloss glided finish using a water-based system. This can be both interior and exterior works. Different products create suitability for different metal leaves, including pure gold leaf, silver, schlag and composite materials.
This one day course will cover the following products from the Instacol range: • Instacol Base • Instacol Matt • Miniatum • Rapid • Permacol • Patina
There will also be a discussion and demonstration of other products available in the instacol range.
On participation, you will receive a box of materials that contains all you need to complete the exercises from the comfort of your own home or studio. It contain samples of the products themselves, as well as materials upon which you practice the gilding system upon, such as plaster, wood and stone. It will also contain brushes, a burnishing cloth, a full book of gold-leaf (25 sheets) and composite leaf needed for the exercises. Please note, the photographs show the possibilities of the system and do not represent the exercises to be conducted in the class environment, although you may also choose to use the products on something of your own choosing if you so wish to in consultation with the tutor.
The lesson will be conducted over Zoom Conferencing, with direct access to the tutor for the day, which will run for approximately 7 hours, including a break for lunch.
On conclusion of this lesson, you will have an understanding of the different types of instacol products available and where they would best be used. You will understand the application processes, and how to obtain the best finish. Richard will be available throughout the day for any questions for participants, as well as limited support outside the lesson for all participants.
