MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — An age-old art form has new students at The Blake School in Minneapolis.

For the last two weeks in September, high school students taking art teacher Brian Sago's Intro to Printmaking class learned about gilding.

An Introduction to Gilding on Frames and Paper

Beginner class with brief lecture of the history of gilding, and project gilding on picture frames and/or paper with waterbased size.

The gilded paper could be used for future art projects such as foundation for silkscreened images, digital printing or painting on top.

PRICING: Blake Students sign up for art class through their regular registration process in the fall.

Amy will be a guest artist in Brian Sago’s Printmaking class at The Blake School for 3 days. Joe Balabusko will assist. The class will occur over 3 class periods and will be documented and recorded. The video student summary will be compiled by the Blake school PR team and shared to the GGS website during October for public viewing.

Amy Ouradnik is a Minneapolis based gilder and decorative artist/designer. She has a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and an AAS in Interior Design from Century College. In 2000, she founded Aurora Decorative Finishes, and has worked throughout the US and traveling abroad as a gilder/decorative finisher. She also makes handmade gilded wall papers for Apropos Paint Studio. In 2016, She assisted Jensen Conservation in re-gilding the “Affairs of the State” quadriga by Daniel French that is situated on the Minnesota State Capitol during their major restoration project. Amy is the current President of the Society of Gilders.
