Easter Gilding Course 2012

This intensive Easter Gilding Course provides a grounding in the ancient art of water and oil gilding suitable for all levels of experience. Based in Florence, the historic centre for fine carving and gilding, the studio is located on the Arno River with beautiful views over the city rooftops.
Julia Lawrence has spent 30 years restoring and gilding many of the greatest buildings in Europe from Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire to the British Embassy in Moscow. Julia will personally teach and supervise the progress of every student.
Teaching only the purest form of gilding using
gold leaf; it includes the critical basics:
- Making Italian and English gesso
- Making and applying Bole
- Polishing and preparation
- Burnishing and toning
Serristori Studio sessions
The course runs from Monday 2nd April to Friday 13th April 2012. The morning session is from 9.00am-12.00pm and 13.00pm-17.00pm in the afternoon.The total studio time is 80 hours split over two weeks.
There is an optional tour around Florence on Saturday morning 7th April, and there will be a trip to Sienna on Saturday 14th April.
Tuition Fees
First week:
40 hours tuition time, £1000.
Second week:
40 hours tuition time, £1000.
Both weeks:
80 hours tuition time, discounted to £1950
Equiptment & Tools: £150
Price includes:
a gilder's cushion, gilder's knife, tip, agate burnisher, sable mop brush, tiranti modelling tool.
Gesso, rabbit skin glue and bole will be supplied by the studio, though students may wish to buy their own supplies. A trip to Zecchi Via dello Studio will also be arranged.
Gold leaf will be supplied at trade price and two carved wooden sample pieces will be supplied to practice on during the course.
Students will be taken to Castorina Via San Spirito to buy something more intricate to work on as they progress through the course.

For those applying for the Easter Gilding Course, we ask for a £500 deposit to secure a place. Further details on payment plans will be provided.
Credit card payments are not accepted.
All applicants will be notified by email once a place has been secured.
Accommodation
Please note that housing is not covered in the tuition fee. To enrolled students we are able to forward lists of agencies and privately rented apartments through our link with The Charles Cecil Studios.
